Katie Goes to SCHOOL!

Well…sort of.

Katie Weaver—that’s me—could come to YOUR school!

I LOVE hanging out with the kids, making them laugh, reading my book(s) to them, talking about writing and illustrating, answering their questions and so much more! We have a BLAST!

I have presentations for preschool through 6th grade.

My books are about facing fear, friendship, kindness, open mindedness, and giving new things a try. In addition to the themes of my books, as an author/illustrator, I have a unique perspective to share with the children. We talk about how valuable constructive feedback is, how new information and practice help grow skill, that it’s okay to start over, the process of writing, illustrating and publishing a book, and more!

WE’RE INTERESTED! (…But how much?)

School Visited within a 90 minute drive

For local school visits, I am looking to sell a minimum of 50 books. My books are priced at $18.95, but for schools I discount the book to $15.00 or less (if they purchase 2+ books at a time). $15 x 50 = $750.

So, I try to be flexible…

Option A: School will allow for me to sell books. I ask the school to guarantee a minimum of 50 books purchased. Meaning, if you send home forms and 37 books are purchased by student families, the school would make up the difference ($15 x 12 books = $180). However, if forms are sent home and 75 books are purchased by student families, there’s no author visit fee.

*Option B: School would rather I not sell books to families. In those cases, I charge an author fee of $700 for a full day (and I work for it! I’m there all day. I’ll present to all grades, do classroom push-ins, eat lunch with students, etc.)

*Option C: School purchases books for students. You would like me to come do a visit and you’d rather apply those funds to buying a book for each student. In the case that the school is buying books for students, I discount the books to $10/each with a minimum of 100 books purchased.

*Don’t have the funds for this? Check with local businesses, ask your PTO for fundraising ideas, or check for local grants.

Schools 90 + minutes from Castle Rock, CO or out of state.

Options A, B, or C + travel expenses. If I can drive (under 6 hours), the school would just cover lodging. 6+ hours drive the school would cover airfare + lodging.

*Note: I don’t require a stipend for food, I’m going to eat at home anyway. ;)
