About Katie

Hi, I’m Katie Weaver!

I’m a children’s book author, illustrator, and book designer, and the founder of A Little Offbeat Publishing. I live in Colorado with my partner and our seven kids: my five, plus two bonus kiddos.

I write funny, heartfelt picture books that kids ask for again and again, the kind that sneak in a little lesson while everyone’s busy giggling. More than 150,000 copies later, I’m still having the time of my life.

My (Slightly Offbeat) Story

In August 2021, I published my very first picture book, When the Sky Roars, and A Little Offbeat Publishing was born. Seeing kids light up over a book I made changed everything.

A few months later I jumped into the book world with both feet, opening The Itty Bitty Book Nook: six small indie bookstores in six different states. In May 2024 I sold all six stores, launched two brand-new series that summer, and by February 2025 I was writing full time.

In July 2025, Macmillan came calling. Today The Trouble with Children series is published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux (FSG), and I’m still dreaming up what’s next.

A Few Offbeat Facts

A House of Nine

Me, my partner, and our seven kids (five plus two bonus kiddos). It’s loud, it’s busy, and they’re the reason I do all of this. I live and breathe for them.

Happiest on a Trail

Colorado hiking is my reset button. I always pick the hikes with incredible views, because the reward is worth the effort.

Sour Patch Kids

My number one guilty pleasure. Happiness, for me, is comfy clothes, no stress, lots of cookies, and maybe some ice cream too.

A Reluctant Reader

As a kid I struggled to stay focused on the page. That’s exactly why I write books that grab kids and don’t let go.

Audiobook Fan

These days I “read” most of my books with my ears. Audiobooks are my secret to fitting in more stories.

My Motto

“I will never allow lack of effort to be the cause of my failures.” I say it at work and as a parent.
